Making Tax Digital

MTD is coming. Ovaro is ready.

As everyday experiences become effortless, Ovaro makes sure your invoices, payments and records are too — built around the way HMRC is moving.

What is Making Tax Digital?

Making Tax Digital (MTD) is a UK government initiative to modernise how tax is reported and managed. It requires certain businesses and self-employed individuals to keep digital records and, for some taxes, submit information digitally to HMRC.

Under MTD for Income Tax, taxpayers may need to send quarterly summaries of their income and expenses, plus an annual final declaration — replacing the traditional paper Self Assessment system.

We recommend checking the official HMRC guidance for the latest requirements and deadlines for your situation.

What MTD means for you

If your business exceeds certain income thresholds, you'll need to:

  • Keep digital records of income and expenses
  • Store supporting documents (receipts, invoices) in a digital format
  • Use MTD-compatible software to manage records

This helps you meet HMRC's requirements while reducing errors and admin burden when preparing tax information.

How Ovaro supports your MTD prep

Ovaro is a tool designed to help freelancers and small businesses build structured digital records — a key foundation of MTD.

Digital record keeping

Generate professional invoices, receipts and estimates, with all documents stored digitally and ready for reporting.

Expense tracking

What's coming next

We're actively developing full MTD-ready features, including integrations and workflows to make future digital reporting easier once those capabilities are available in Ovaro. Stay tuned for updates.
